Boba Fett Returns! Marvel Officially Adapts Disney+ Series into New Comic
Instead of a Season 2, Marvel Comics is bringing Black Spire Outpost's resident crime lord back to the spotlight in a brand-new print adaptation.

If you walked through Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge recently and spotted the iconic green armor of Boba Fett or the sharp eye of Fennec Shand, you might have wondered when we'd see their next big adventure. While a second season of the live-action Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett is not on the horizon, Marvel Comics has just announced a major project that gives the bounty-hunter-turned-crime-lord a fresh showcase.
Starting September 9, 2026, Marvel is launching a seven-issue comic book miniseries adapting The Book of Boba Fett. Each of the seven issues will directly correspond with an episode of the 2021–2022 Disney+ show, translating Boba’s battle for control of Tatooine’s underworld into stylized print.
This is not a completely new strategy for Lucasfilm, which has previously adapted The Mandalorian and Ahsoka into comics. However, this adaptation offers a unique opportunity for fans. Because The Book of Boba Fett was somewhat polarizing—diverting its main narrative for multiple episodes to focus on Din Djarin and Grogu—experiencing the story on the page may allow the pacing to shine in a way it couldn't on television.
The Creative Team Behind the Pages
Marvel has tapped some seasoned galactic veterans to bring this story to life. The miniseries is written by Rodney Barnes, who previously handled Marvel’s adaptations of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, and illustrated by Will Sliney, known for his dynamic work on The Rise of Kylo Ren.
Barnes shared his personal excitement about stepping back into Boba Fett's armor:
"I've loved Boba Fett since early childhood! Adapting this series has been a complete joy, and I can't wait for Star Wars fans to read it!"
— Rodney Barnes, Writer
The premiere issue on September 9 will feature a main cover illustrated by Alex Maleev, with spectacular variant covers coming from legendary artists like Jerry Ordway, Pete Woods, E.M. Gist, and Rickie Yagawa.
What This Means for Theme Park Fans
For those of us who regularly visit the parks, this announcement is a welcome reminder of the character's enduring appeal. Boba Fett and Fennec Shand have been incredibly popular face characters roaming Black Spire Outpost in Disneyland, and their presence at [hollywood-studios](Disney's Hollywood Studios) continues to draw eager crowds.
Despite the current sluggish summer wait times at Hollywood Studios, Galaxy's Edge remains a cornerstone of the theme park experience. Seeing Lucasfilm double down on Boba’s narrative continuity with these comic adaptations keeps the world of Batuu alive, especially as the franchise shifts its cinematic focus to the theatrical screen.
Whether you loved every minute of the television series or felt it was a missed opportunity, seeing these characters illustrated by some of Marvel's best artists is bound to be a visual treat. Grab your copy this fall, and keep your eyes peeled next time you're traversing the sands of Tatooine—or the pathways of Galaxy’s Edge.
