Disney is officially launching its hype machine for the upcoming live-action reimagining of Moana, which sails into movie theaters on July 10, 2026. Leading the wave of new merchandise is a brand-new collaboration from Loungefly: a floral-decked mini backpack and a matching wristlet wallet.
Unlike the countless cartoon-inspired designs we've seen since the animated original debuted a decade ago, this collection features the likeness of newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia, who is stepping into the title role of the wayfinding heroine. It marks a major milestone as the first official retail collection dedicated specifically to the live-action aesthetic of the film.
A First Look at the Floral Designs
The centerpiece of the drop is the Moana Live Action Floral Mini Backpack ($90). It is constructed from cream-colored polyurethane leather with a soft, textured finish. The front zipper pocket features a printed portrait of Lagaʻaia's Moana, bordered by vibrant, dimensional red, pink, yellow, and orange appliqué flowers.
Look closely at the slip pockets on the sides, and you’ll spot her trusty sidekicks, Pua and Heihei, rendered in their realistic, live-action animal forms. The back of the pack keeps things clean but thematic, featuring a small debossed graphic of Moana's iconic voyaging canoe near the bottom. Inside, a bright blue lining fabric is patterned with flowers and character sketches.
To match, the Moana Live Action Floral Wristlet Wallet ($55) offers a scaled-down version of the same design. It features Moana on the front, a brown faux-leather back panel, a detachable wrist strap, and plenty of interior organization—including six card slots and a clear ID window.
The live-action production has already generated immense warmth from the original creators. In a newly released behind-the-scenes look at the casting process, the original voice of Moana (and executive producer of the new film) shared her excitement about passing the torch:
"It is such a joy to see Catherine take on the life of this character."
— Auli'i Cravalho, executive producer and original voice of Moana
This Loungefly release isn’t the only way Disney is preparing for the movie's theatrical run. Over at Disney Springs, the Native Hawaiian-founded brand ALOHA Collection has also dropped a limited-edition splash-proof gear lineup featuring similar character art, showing just how hard Disney is leaning into authentic, island-inspired designs this summer.
The Theme Park Reality Check
While this cream-colored set is undeniably beautiful, park-goers should pause before making it their primary theme-park companion this summer.
We’ve previously written about the sweaty, bottomless reality of carrying a Loungefly at Disney, and those challenges multiply when you introduce a light-colored bag to the equation. Cream faux leather is a magnet for dark dye transfer from wet clothing, asphalt grime when tucked under ride seats on attractions like Space Mountain, and yellowing from sweat and sunscreen. If you’re rope-dropping [epcot] or trekking through [animal-kingdom] in the peak of the July heat, a dark or water-resistant nylon bag is almost always the safer bet.
But if you’re looking for the ultimate accessory for a dinner reservation at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, or planning a gentle stroll through Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana at dusk, this bag is a stunning tribute to Disney's next big theatrical step.
Both the mini backpack and the wristlet wallet are currently available online at the official Loungefly site, as well as retail partners like Hot Topic and BoxLunch. As the film's July 10 release date draws closer, expect to see them landing on shelves in the parks as well—perhaps calling to you from the shelves of the Moana-themed gift shops just beyond the reef.
